Fregate: This private granitic island is situated about 55 km east of Mahe, is 2 km in length and 1 km wide.  The island can be reached by plane or helicopter in 15 minutes.  The island is covered by lush vegetation, with orange, mango and baobab tress.  The island takes the name from the Fregate bird, also called the private bird, because it attacks other marine birds making them drop their prey.
